Have you ever had someone let you down? They made a promise but didn’t fulfill their promise. The fact is people will let you down sometimes. A vast number of our troubles in this world come from placing our trust in something or someone other than God.
When Joseph was in prison, as we read about in Genesis, people let him down again and again. His brothers let him down (literally in a pit) and then they sold him into slavery. After becoming a leader in Egypt, he is let down by Potiphar’s wife who tries to seduce him! He is then thrown into prison and forgotten! As disappointing as it was to be forgotten in prison, unknown to Joseph, another even better opportunity was coming.
When Pharaoh has two dreams, the chief cupbearer finally remembers Joseph and tells Pharaoh about this young Hebrew. Joseph is summoned and brought before Pharaoh, and Joseph correctly interprets his dreams in Genesis 41. In v. 41 of Genesis 41, Pharaoh tells Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.” Because of Joseph’s faithfulness, even in adversity, he is rewarded. That is why when people let us down (and they will!), we are to use the adversity as an opportunity to make a difference where we are!
We can make a difference even in our challenging times. This was a challenging week for many people in the Waynesboro area after the tornado. Our home was significantly damaged. Some families had trees fall and others had hail damage, among other challenges!! But Christians should not fret because of losses of property, or the loss of a job, a flat tire, an unexpected illness or disease or other trials. God is God, and He desires that we trust him and make a difference even in our trials and adversities!!
