Ambassadors of Jesus Christ

We read in the first two verses of 1 Timothy, “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope.”  This verse shows us that God saves us AND calls us to serve.  The word apostle reminds us that Paul was one who was sent out.  The word Apostle comes from the word that means to be sent out as an ambassador.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we are all sent out.  That is why we are part of the holy, catholic and apostolic church. Apostolic, from the root word, apostle means ambassador or messenger commissioned to carry out the instructions of the commissioning agent.  As followers of Jesus, we are all messengers who are sent out to represent Jesus in our broken world!

If you are a follower of Jesus, you are an ambassador.  When you visit Washington, D.C. you can take a tour of what is referred to as “embassy row,” which refers to Massachusetts Avenue, NW between Dupont Circle and Observatory Circle.  While not all the buildings in this area are embassies, many embassies are in this region.  An embassy is an institution that represents one nation inside another nation.  As an ambassador of Jesus Christ, we represent the Kingdom of God in our world!  May we be faithful ambassadors for our commissioning agent, Jesus Christ!!
