We read in Colossians 3:16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Probably the most threatening part of this verse is that we are to “teach and admonish one another in all wisdom.”
If we get close to other people, they are going to earn the right to say, “You know, you were dealing with this a year ago, have you tried anything different?” And we will be held accountable. And that is probably the most threatening part of this because all of a sudden, we are in this together and someone else is caring about the fact that I am not growing. We will face challenges and hardships together.
Erwin McManus, who pastors the multi-cultural church, Mosaic, in California once shared that adults don’t really learn much in classrooms; they learn in crisis. And it is in these deeper, closer relationships that we discover more about ourselves and the importance of significant deep relationships. We discover we need one another.
So, are you willing to share life in a more meaningful way? Are you committing to developing these kinds of relationships? As we read in Colossians 3:16, we are to “admonish one another in all wisdom.” If we want to develop these kinds of relationships and experience what God wants us to experience, we are going to have to make this a priority in our lives.
I believe God wants to bless us through our relationships with other people. God wants to bless you. God wants to bless other people through you and you are far too valuable to get lost in the crowd.
