How have you experienced God’s GLORY in your life? Certainly, creation testifies to the GLORYof God. Think about the first time you were told that there were no two snowflakes exactly the same. There are so many miracles of nature. Like so many of you I like vast expanses of scenery. It is so wonderful to be here in the Shenandoah Valley. I think it is so easy to take our area for granted. This place is magnificent – it bespeaks the GLORY of God.
Certainly, the art world testifies to the GLORY of God. We have many gifted artists in our area. And then there are musicians, singers, writers and painters – all testifying to God’s GLORY!
We read in 1 Corinthians 10:31, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the GLORY of God.” People are always trying to make a name for themselves. This is seen prominently in various celebrities and politicians. Frankly, it is in our nature. But the truth is that our names will come and go but God’s GLORY is the only thing that is permanent.
I have seen the GLORY of God in my life more times than I can count. Certainly, when I trusted Jesus as my Lord and Savior back in 9th Grade; when I observed the birth of Kristen (I do not know how anyone could witness the birth of a child and not have a relationship with the Creator). Obviously, I have seen the GLORY of God in my almost forty years of ministry.
One of the most significant times for me was on my wedding day. And I stood in the front of College Hill Presbyterian Church and watched as Kim came down the aisle. That was a powerful moment – all that anticipation! She was gorgeous – and she was set aside for me. God was at the center of that moment – and he was glorified in what we were doing. The first order of worship that day was to sing the wonderful worship chorus – Majesty. It has been my privilege to have a bird’s eye view as I have watched countless grooms as their brides come down the aisle – looking at the groom’s face; it reminds me of what I must have looked like.
So, we are to GLORIFY God in whatever we do. We are to sense His presence in all the seasons of our lives. And, when we gather for corporate worship, we especially desire to sense His presence!! May our lives bespeak the glory of God!!
