When you’re hurting and frustrated, do you sometimes think about giving up?  It is hard to keep going some days, and keeping the faith becomes one of life’s most difficult challenges.  It is relatively easy to live out our Christian lives when things are going relatively easily, but it is much harder to trust Jesus when life is in a tailspin.

Toward the end of the Apostle Paul’s life, he writes his young friend, Timothy, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).  Paul could look back on his life and recognize that he had persevered.  Amid the trials of his life, he had hung in there.

Have you hung in there when life was fraught with challenges?  Can you look back on your life and say with confidence that you have offered your best for the Lord?  Paul said, “I have fought the good fight.  What was good about this ‘fight?”  It was a race for God, and Paul’s faith kept him in the race – even when he probably felt like dropping out at times.

Friends, when our lives get tough, may we stay in the race because our faith keeps us there!
