Hope in the Promises of God

Our church’s name is Hope Community Church!  That is not an accident!  We are a people of hope.  John Piper stated, “Christian hope is a confidence that something will come to pass because God has promised it will come to pass.”

So, hope should be OUR word!  As Christians, we are a people of HOPE!  As Jesus takes up residence in our lives, and as we become more and more familiar with his life in our lives, we are filled with HOPE!  We can go through incredible tragedy as Christians and still experience hope – increasing hope.

We can experience moral failure; we can sin to the nth degree and fall short of God’s glory, as Paul talks about in Romans, and still know of God’s grace and forgiveness.  When we hear an assurance of pardon (e.g., Believe the good news . . . in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven) – that is HOPE!

Hope is a dominant word for us as Christians.  When we face impossible circumstances and we have no idea how we are going to get through; when terror strikes in the center of our lives, and yet there is somehow in us this incredible hope that wells up within us.  It is the indwelling Holy Spirit that does this for us.

God is always doing something behind the scenes.  God has agents working in the background that we are not aware of – it’s even better than we can imagine.  That is why we are people of hope.  Do you need hope today?  When you place your trust in God through Jesus Christ, even when you go through challenges and heartache in life, you can have hope that God will not leave you because He has promised “I will NEVER leave you nor forsake you.”  When we are assured of that promise, we can rest in HOPE!  May you rest in hope today, even in the midst of the atrocities and challenges in our world . . . even the atrocities of warfare in Israel and Ukraine, as well as other areas of turmoil in our world!
