Kim and I had a wonderful adventure in Italy and London to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary! We saw so many incredible sights, including those with historical and biblical import. Visiting Vatican City in Rome, Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s Church in London were highlights, among others. Observing these sites where Christians have gathered through many centuries to worship and serve the Lord reminded me of the importance of continuing to be faithful in our response to God’s initiation of love through Jesus Christ. I found myself praying and giving thanks for those Jesus-followers who shared the gospel faithfully, so we could be part of that “great cloud of witnesses”!
I wonder how Hope Community Church will be used by God to continue the heritage of faithfully sharing the gospel and serving within the context of our part of the world. I am so grateful our Session has put together a clear ministry plan to outline our strategy for a process of discipleship. If you have not read that ministry plan, I encourage you to read it and reflect on your role within the body of Christ through Hope Community Church. Before we left for our trip, I asked you to pray about how God is calling you to take a leadership role in one of the areas listed. So, I encourage you to look for ways to celebrate your gifts and interests through Hope. And, may we together continue to live out our vision of being and making disciples of Jesus Christ, in order to:
Grow in faith, and
Go serve God and neighbor!
Ramsey & Heather Persing – Ramsey and Heather are on staff with CRU (formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ), at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. They minister on the campus of WVU, sharing the Gospel and building up and encouraging the body of Christ on that campus. They are currently at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire on a summer mission with 20-30 students. The following is a note from the Persings we received on May 30th:
Dear Friends at Hope Community Church,
While it’s a bit cold, things are going well in Hampton Beach. We’re excited for the students to arrive today. We do have a couple special requests and something to update on Maisie.
Our insurance recently approved us for the next test we were hoping to get but the approval is only good for a few days and can only be done through the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital network. Heather and Maisie have to fly back to Pittsburgh early morning, will get some blood drawn, then fly right back this afternoon. First, we would love your prayers that there aren’t any delays and everything goes well. Secondly, you can pray for the results. This is a genetic test that we expect could give us some answers.
When we decided to come to Hampton Beach we knew the need to fly back might occur, but wanted to commit in faith to be here with the students. Plane tickets were pretty expensive last minute, but we’re thankful the insurance approved the tests. Results for the test can take a few weeks, but we’ll keep you updated on how it goes.
So, please keep the Persings, and specifically Maisie, in your prayers, as well as for the students in their outreach/evangelism mission efforts at Hampton Beach. https://give.cru.org/0583325
AND MAKE DISCIPLES
THIS SUNDAY Pastor Glen will be back in the pulpit. He will begin a new series based on 1 Timothy: “Guarding the Truth”. The message this Sunday is: “Called to Serve,” based on 1 Timothy 1:1-2. Please read this text in preparation for worship and reflect on this question: “How can a person know if they are called to “full-time” Christian service?”
THIS SUNDAY we will also gather around the Lord’s Table to celebrate the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. Please spend time in prayer and preparation, examining yourself per 1 Corinthians 11:27-32.
SUMMER SCHEDULE – Sunday school for children and youth will not be offered through June and July. We encourage parents to include children in our worship services. We will continue to have nursery available for babies and toddlers. If you are able to assist anytime this summer in the nursery, please contact Kelly King at firstname.lastname@example.org. Sunday school will resume on August 6th.

In the meantime, please welcome Nina to her new role within our congregation.
