HOPE COMMUNITY CHURCH started as members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) began meeting in February 2013 to prayerfully consider forming a congregation in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. We met in homes and in the Waynesboro Senior Center initially, seeking the Lord’s face for next steps. The first worship service was held on April 7, 2013 in the fellowship hall of the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren.
A Transitional Leadership Team was organized at first, and by the summer of 2013 a Vision Team was established to give ongoing leadership to the flock. In the succeeding months the church functioned with various interim speakers, many of whom were organizing members of the mission congregation.
On September 28, 2013, Dr. Glen Holman was commissioned by the Mid-Atlantic Presbytery of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church to be the organizing pastor/evangelist.
HOPE COMMUNITY CHURCH was commissioned as a “localized” congregation of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church on May 3, 2015 with 76 charter members. Our name was chosen because of the HOPE we have in Jesus Christ! We believe the Bible and are grateful for its stability and guidance in a world which is constantly changing.
After the localization of the congregation, the first three elders ordained to serve as the session of the new congregation are Ron Layne, Cliff Scott, and Paige Holder. The congregation continues to grow in the love and admonition of the Lord Jesus Christ. The vision of being and making disciples is the foundational focus of the congregation. We desire to:
- Glorify God in all things
- Grow in Relationship with God and others
- GO into all the world, making disciples
Disciples at Hope Community Church are glorifying God through worship, growing toward maturity, celebrating life in community, serving in the church and in the world, and making disciples by multiplication!
We celebrate what God is doing in our midst, and we look forward to an exciting ministry in the twenty-first century!
